Building Block Series of 2012 - Kansas Limestone

These smaller blocks of Kansas Limestone were originally quarried and used to build a structure somewhere near Lucas, Kansas. Lucas is a small town of 400 people but don't let that fool you. The people there are the finest, and quirkiest, I've met anywhere. Lucas also lies in the heart of Post Rock Country, along the Post Rock Scenic Byway, where the color in the limestone is as golden as the wheat in June. 2012 was my third year visiting Post Rock Country. My new friends in Lucas have allowed me to collect the stones I want to bring home for carvings. These blocks still have evidence of the work done by an early settler who used it to build his home or barn over 100 years ago.
